Fortune Cooking - Canadian Premiere at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival

After a successful run earlier at the Asian Film Festivals in San Diego, Philadelphia and Washington this year, Fortune Cooking, my newest film will be having its Canadian premiere at the 13th Annual Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

Fortune Cooking is about Canadian Sam Lau, who took up cooking as a means of survival. Following a glowing review from the New York Times, he managed to keep his restaurant open for another six months. He was able to show his skills as an artist, but high expectations and low prices made for an unfortunate combination.

Like the award winning State of Yo (2008), this documentary short talks about the choices many immigrants make in order to survive in their new country and the origins of Asian occupational typecasting (laundry and cooking). It has been well received across the United States and I am very thankful at the opportunity to have this film screened in Vancouver this Saturday November 7, 2009 at 1:30 pm at Tinsletown Cinemas (88 West Pender Street - 3rd Floor).

On behalf of everyone involved in this project, we look forward to seeing you there.
